Phnom Penh, Cambodia, October 2013 - Viewfinder cropped images from this past week of life around the incomplete Vattanac Capital, a mixed-use development complex with two towers, 6-storey and 38-storey, icons that supposably symbolizes progress, health and prosperity. Construction of the largest complex in the cities central business district began in 2008 and is now said to be completed at the end of 2014.

Phnom Penh, Cambodia, October 2013 - Visual Poem - Yesterday on my birthday I stood at the side of the street, fixed on the flatten party hat that laid in the center of the macadam as motorist rolled pass. A passenger in a tuk tuk vehicle voiced out toward me, “be careful”.   (Cho Self)

Phnom Penh, Cambodia, September 2013 - During the twilight of Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. down by the river near the Royal Palace, hoards of people gather on the river bank wall enjoying a relaxing evening.  As what seem to be a spontaneous action police removed the razor wire and iron gating barricades surrounding the approximately 10 kilometer perimeter of the palace grounds and Freedom Park that had been in place for almost one week.  Allowing once again access of motor and pedestrian traffic of citizens, tourist, small business merchants to travel freely in the nations wonder city.

Phnom Penh, Cambodia, September 2013 - A few hours on the streets of the Kings city down by the river a child angles for the water, a child focuses on authority, a child’s reflection in shatter glass, covered in plastic, appealing to the tourist, lovers on the wall.

Thành phố Trà Vinh, Việt Nam, August 2013 - Viewfinder-cropped images from this past week. South in the Mekong, moving back and forth across a wet field reaping the seasons rice harvest, a combine operated by a few men ride the large rolling machine, two boys jump on and off the vehicle using it to search for creatures living in the paths of water and nesting in the clumps of grass; fresh water fish, mini crabs and ground fowl are placed in a plastic bag, later to consume.  Once an area is mowed the hamlet farmers gather the cut grassy leaves and stems of the crop to use as feed and bedding for their livestock. Most certainly more then rice grain becomes the bounty of the season.

Thành ph Trà Vinh, Vit Nam, August 2013 - Viewfinder-cropped images from this past week. Walking a macadam rural road lined over farming fields of banana, rice, sugar cane, I happened upon an elder Khmer woman draped in traditional attire, attending to cows as they fed on greenery aside the seasons cultivated profit.  Searching my face as I approached, offering a half smile, she stood on the adjacent dirt path asking me a question spoken in her Khmer vernacular.  In less then a second realizing I was a foreigner who didn’t understand her words, the smile faded from the soft seasoned face as she resume the monitoring of her livestock…

Tra Vinh city, Vietnam, July 2013 -Through the viewfinder-cropped images from the past couple of weeks. Gestures of adjustments, scratching an itch, clutching to hang on; with street scenes of community, commerce, family being together and alone.
